Wood fired bread oven

In June 2007, we built near the main house a wood fired clay bread oven, with the help of Veronica, a woofer who is used to working with clay as she is a potter.

Here are a few pictures of the builing of the oven.
The oven has been in regular use since. It bakes delicious pizzas, as well as bread.

1st Clay layer

Sand form finished and covered with newspaper. Starting to build the oven.
The 1st layer is made of clay and sand

2nd cob layer
The fist layer is finished, and we are mixing the cob for the 2nd layer.
As you can see, everyone's doing their share of work

Insulation layer
Starting the 3rd cob layer.
This is the insulation layer, and the cob contains a very high proportion of straw.
The insulation layer is then covered with 2 coats of clay plaster.
